This text, which is also available in HTML and PDF formats at https://complexanalysis.org, was vetted through six editions with Jones and Bartlett publishing. It provides a comprehensive first course in complex analysis to include many applications in science and engineering. Designed to display the beauty of mathematical thinking, it contains a survey of the intricate and controversial history of the evolution of complex numbers. It is written in a way that allows for flexibility in teaching styles, but does not gloss over theoretical notions. There is an interesting section on the Mandelbrot set, as well as sections dealing with applications in a variety of areas.

Russell Howell (BS, Wheaton College, MsC, University of Edinburgh, PhD, The Ohio State University) has held visiting positions at UC Berkeley, Calvin University, University of Maryland, Oxford University, and the United States Air Force Academy. He was twice honored with Westmont’s Teacher of the Year award. He served in the US Army in South Korea, and was a leader for Westmont’s Europe and Mexico semesters. His research area is in complex analysis. In addition to this book, he is co-editor and contributor to Mathematics Through the Eyes of Faith (2011) and Mathematics in a Postmodern Age: A Christian Perspective (2001). A piano player, he also enjoys tennis and hiking.
