"This is What Maisie Believes" is a book that features the voice of Maisie -- a thoughtful, energetic, happy and deeply spiritual little girl. Maisie describes her relationship with God through a series of matter-of-fact and simple declarations. Maisie's understandings about God are incontrovertible, clear and to the point. She is infused with love, joy and acceptance for who she is, who God is, and for her African heritage. Maisie has an incipient sense of racial subjection and its internalization and has a strong belief that people's absorption of God's fundamental precept of love will ameliorate even the most virulent hatred.

This beautifully illustrated book is designed for children aged 6 and up, however its messages of affirmation and God's love will find resonance in people of all ages. Amplifying Maisie's statements are Adinkra symbols -- representations of spiritual and cultural values from the Akan peoples of West Africa.

M is for Math

$15.00 - $22.00

M is for Math is a mathematical journey through the alphabet for young children (and the young at heart!). The book contains delightful illustrations which make the whimsical sentences come to life. In each sentence, the animal (which is the subject of the sentence), the verb, and the math term begin with the same letter. For example, “the hare hopped happily along the hypotenuse.”

The author wants all children from a young age to realize and appreciate that math is fun, and that there is so much more to math than numbers.

Radical Grace

$20.00 - $35.00

"It's a breath of fresh air in educational literature and a must read for educators everywhere." - Mohamed Omar, Mathematician, Author of Graph Theory You Need Before Undergrad Research: in 8 undergrad lectures

"It has been a while since I sat down and read a book cover to cover, but this came today and that's exactly what happened with this one." - Drew Lewis, Mathematician and Education Researcher

In teaching, when do we have instances of grace, or as the dictionary defines it, courteous goodwill? Are those instances going against what we’ve been trained to do when teaching, or against what the norms are of academia? Throughout this book, Drs. Candice Price and Miloš Savić have conversations and essays about how they've learned to believe in radical grace for their students. Going through their own personal stories, they provide reasons for their teaching philosophy.

Compassionate Math

$29.00

This isn’t a mindset book; it’s a math book. This isn’t a math book; it’s a mindset book. In the first book of this groundbreaking series, Dr. Geillan Aly takes the reader on a journey of self-discovery to help the reader heal their math trauma. She shows you that math is both emotional and cognitive and that you need both parts of yourself to support the other. Why? Human beings are mathematical beings.

Written for the adult learner who avoids math but wants to finally call themselves a math person, Compassionate Math: Book One in the Compassionate Math Series, acknowledges the emotional turmoil many feel when studying math. The book begins by explaining why learning math can be extremely difficult and defines the many social and emotional factors that contribute to mathematical success (or failure), giving language and validity to one’s feelings. From there, the foundational ideas of mathematics are explained using simple language and everyday ideas. Throughout the book, Dr. Geillan Aly uses creative metaphors, her own math learning stories, and surprising connections to help the reader understand what they may not have understood before and appreciate the beauty of mathematics.

Compassionate Math provides an approachable path towards understanding mathematics, empowering the reader to reclaim this part of themselves. Rigorous topics aren’t ignored, allowing it to supplement any college text, help a parent or caretaker support their child, or be a springboard to help the reader understand and excel at more advanced mathematical topics.
